"I have always been fascinated by the connection between music and the visual arts. Perhaps it is because I grew up surrounded by sculpture and painting; my father is a sculptor, and I was often in his studio as a child. Even back then, I had the feeling that some composers and painters were striving to express the same thing, only through different means.
This fascination eventually became the starting point for my debut album. I asked five composers, whose music I admire deeply, to each write a new solo guitar piece inspired by a work of visual art. They were completely free in their choice of inspiration, and what emerged are five very different musical worlds. Each piece reflects the composer’s unique voice and approach to the instrument, and each required me to find a new kind of touch, a new way of listening and playing.
Working closely with the composers and bringing these works to life has been an adventure I am incredibly grateful for. With this recording, I am happy to share five world premieres that explore the relationship between image and sound in very personal ways. My hope is that these pieces not only enrich the guitar repertoire, but also reflect how closely the different arts are connected and how much they can inspire each other."
